Job Description

Early childhood educators plan, organize and implement programs for children between the ages of 19 months and 6 years. Early childhood educators lead children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical and emotional growth and ensure their security and well-being.

Early childhood educators
- Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
- Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
- Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
- Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
- May supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
- Implement and update the school curriculum as student's needs dictate
- May be required to participate in regular training, staff meetings, and group planning meetings
- Communicate with parents of the students in the program
- Complete and maintain all records, reports, evaluations, and other school documents
- Supervision, support, and guidance of Level 1 and 2 ECE assistants

Requirements

  • Alberta Early Childhood Educator Level 3 certification

  • Standard Child Care first aid & CPR certification - valid (within last 12 months)

  • Experience working with children aged 19 months to 6 years in a licensed child care setting

  • A positive attitude and collaborative teamwork approach

  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills including basic computer literacy

  • Evidence of Police Security Clearance report including vunerable sector search (less than 6 months from hiring date)

  • Three professional references required

  • Montessori accreditation preferred
